The Tier I committee for this year consists of people representing different inputs:  Nathan Bowen - Thunder Hockey, Chris Powers - SAHA Board,  Cooler Tier I,  Don Stone - SAHA Board  and Junior hockey;  Danny Corns - NYHL (former Tier I),  Jeff Harris - Tier II, Hal Clausen - AR, LA, MS impact.

An email containing the current Tier I by-laws along with questions for discussion which came from the meeting in Nashville at the SAHA meetings has been emailed to the committee.   The Tier I by laws can be found on www.sahaonline.org.  The questions sent to the committee were:

Questions from the Tier I discussion:

1.      What is the purpose of Tier I hockey?  To develop players?  Showcase top players?

2.      Should peewee be eliminated since there is no more peewee nationals?

3.      There are no guidelines as to HOW teams will be limited.  What criteria should be used?

4.      Application process did not allow the board enough time last year… what other time frame needs to be implemented if any?

5.      There are no guidelines as to how many teams in an age division an association may field.  How many of these teams may be national bound?  Do we need and should we restrict?

6.      Should there be a limit of players not considered SAHA players?  How to define a SAHA player.

7.      Should open tryouts be required?
A request was made for other questions that need to be addressed.

Starting off the hockey season.....

This last weekend the Southern Amateur Hockey Association held its annual meeting.  During the course of the meetings I was asked to chair the Tier I committee.  Part of this committee's job is to review and implement by-laws that fit the need of our players in the South.   This blog will be an ongoing record of discussion from the committee.    The course of this week is to set up the committee itself.   In the mean time, further posts will be available with background information.  While all are welcome to follow this blog, commenting and postings will be limited so we can stay on task.   Looking forward to a great hockey season!!
